The Duo Twangs (Gerard & Mike) were born when the rest of the band (@the.contingency.van) didn’t want to get up on Sunday mornings to play at the farmer’s market in the snow.  Gerard and Mike stuck it out and became a (twangy duo) who now have hundreds of hours of busking in all types of weather, indoor/outdoor, rain, wind, sunshine and snow under their belts. Mike Horne finally washed up on the West Coast after spending his formative years in England, Toronto and California and he is now a folk scene staple in Vancouver.  His intuitive harmonica-playing can turn anything into a bluesy ballad and he holds down harmony and guitar rhythm.  Gerard Lynch, from Ontario,  is  heavily influenced by bluegrass traditions and adds mandolin to the mix.

Mike has been a leader on many open stages over the years in Vancouver and The Duo Twangs originally met at one of these. One of those nights that went later than most!

Mike and Gerard like to get your toes tapping and if you look closely, you will notice Mike is playing his guitar “Elizabeth Cotton” style… upside down and backwards.  This style is rare, and is even moreso these days with higher availability of left-handed guitars.  Just one of the many charming traits you’ll experience when you check out The Duo Twangs tonight at Red Truck Stop LIVE.
