BABYHARRY KINGS OF SOUL – DUO ACT

“Hello, I am Antoine Babyharry Calaway and I started playing music a long time ago. Born and raised in Desmoines Iowa. My mother Virginia G Calaway (born1920) and father Harry Calaway (born 1915) introduced me to music at a very young age. They were two successful business minded folks, who developed one of the biggest Tandom box trucking companies in Iowa.  They both loved music, and turned me on to many different artists; lots of gospel, blues, country.

At the tender age of six, I lost my only brother in a tragic accident.  I was traumatized and now an only child… my mom realized I had a love for music and she steered me deeper into it. Since my parents were well connected in the state of Iowa we three were invited backstage when James Brown came to town. At six, James Brown had a chat with me. Somehow my mom knew that taking me to that show could change my life and help me cope with the loss of my big brother. Subsequently, she took me to see The Commodores, Jackson 5, and Chic. Not long after I started playing bass and by age 9, my life was all about playing music. When I moved to Vancouver in ’95, by way of California, I recorded my first record.  It was the year 2000, and my record got alot of attention and airplay; thereafter I developed the Antoine Babyharry Band.  We toured with Leon Russell. My music was on the radio in rotation in the U.S. and Canada and it caught the attention of film director Zack Snider (300, The Watchman, Suckerpunch), an the next thing I know I’ve got a nine week principle film acting job as a gangster jazz musician set in the 1940s!  I have been an active film and television actor since. I feel that my music has saved my life and in many ways it’s opened many doors for me. I’m very thankful to music for that. With my parents in my heart, my blood is a musician and my mind is a businessman. I’m eager to know the business of music and to be a singer-songwriter who can entertain. My music is best described as blues infused rock and soul music and these days I usually present it as a trio or a duo act.
