Have you ever been in a bar and the song “Livin’ On A Prayer” came on? And everyone sang along with the chorus? Well, everyone was singing along with Joani Bye, because that’s her wailing on background vocals. She’s also singing on albums by Cher, INXS, and many others. Joani started as a concert piano major at UBC, switched to a voice major in second year, then left academia to “sing with a band for a while”….For-a-while is still happening. She plays a mean guitar too, though when the gifted and versatile Tim Porter is on stage together with her, he’s working the axe.

Tim moved from Vancouver Island in1990 to play with as many Vancouver musicians as possible, which has since included shows with the Canadian Tenors, Long John Baldry and and and and hundreds of live and recording sessions. He joined Joani Bye & the Homewreckers in the late nineties and they’ve performed together in many groups since, even sharing the stage in some theatre productions. Their latest collaboration is the iconic ten-piece Vancouver powerhouse of a band, the R&B Allstars.

Tim enjoys playing many different styles in all sorts of situations. From Big-Band era groups to funky blues bands to acoustic duos, he’s got a guitar for every occasion. Jeff Bridges has been told he looks like Tim Porter. He may get better roles, but Tim plays wayyyy better guitar. His solos are legendary and he shares what he knows at guitar workshops – you’ll be charmed to notice that Tim’s solos are almost as legendary as Joani’s whistle solos. Yup! She’s the 2nd best whistler in the family next to Rupert, her African Grey parrot, who’s the boss of everyone. When not playing music or teaching a vocal empowerment course, Joani can be found on the tennis court or sweating up a storm in the hot yoga studio.
